Re-gifting has been a well-known but unspoken part of the holiday gift giving process for many years. While it may be easy to re-gift a wine chiller or some type of kitchen appliance, for people who may not favor all of their foods received in a gourmet holiday gift basket or some other type of food presentation, the process is a little harder.
First, always acknowledge the receipt of your gift with the sender. Online gift baskets are easy to send but they require time and effort to select the right presentation as well as money to pay for and ship these unique holiday or great birthday gift ideas. After the sender has been thanked, look within your immediate household. Is there anyone who may enjoy the products you were sent? If so, it is perfectly acceptable to share them with others in your family.
Single people can try other avenues to recycle their food items. Always remember to perform this process as soon as possible because there aren’t many people who are keen on eating holiday wrapped foods in late summer. Check product expiration dates before offering food items and always present unopened foods.
One of the best places to pass on unopened gourmet Christmas gift basket food items is at work. In the break room, placing the food items in a “take one” display will allow co-worker to select an item that appeals to their liking. It may also encourage others at the workplace to start a food swap. After a day or two any unremoved items can be donated to an organization like a food bank or other charitable food recycling company.
When trying to recycle snack gift baskets, always remember your gift basket’s sender. Make sure he or she is not aware you are doing this and be conscious of his/her existence. You do not want to try a workplace giveaway if the person who sent you the gourmet Christmas gift basket is your boss or fellow co-worker.
